Lisbon
Port of Lisbon
Situated in a magnificent geographic location, Lisbon is an important port of call for trans-Atlantic cruises from the East Coast of the USA to Europe; around the Western Mediterranean and the North of Europe; to the Atlantic islands and to North Africa. The sea approach to the city of Lisbon is a magical experience for cruise passengers. From the moment the ship enters the Tagus estuary, passengers will be enchanted by the first glimpse of the city and its riverside landmarks. There are three passenger terminals for ships calling at Lisbon, all located in the downtown district.
Impressive Heritage
Situated on the north bank of the River Tagus, Lisbon’s charm lies in its strong links to the past. Renovated palaces; magnificent churches and an impressive castle reflect the city‘s rich cultural heritage. Its eclectic blend of neighborhoods, culture and architecture set this capital city apart from all other European capitals and make it a truly fascinating and multi-faceted destination.
A City of Contrasts
Located in the eastern area of the city and boasting a vast riverfront, the Parque das Nações is home to a wide variety of open-air attractions and leisure facilities such as the aquarium (Oceanário de Lisboa); the Atlantic Pavilion; a venue for concerts and major international sports and the new Casino de Lisboa. Sports lovers will enjoy hiking along the trails in the beautiful hills and the stunning landscapes of the natural parks, such as Sintra and Arrábida, located south of Lisbon, or playing a round of golf at one of the many courses Lisbon and the surrounding area can offer, such as Estoril and Cascais. Also located on the riverbank and offering a new and attractive infrastructure are the ‘Docas’. The Lisbon Docas, particularly Alcântara, belong to the residents’ most favorite meeting places. The biggest shopping mall on the Iberian Peninsula, Centro Commercial Colombo, has much to offer. For those who prefer to shop in local markets, there is a fascinating flea market at the Campo de Santa Clara.
