Port of Vigo: Good results this 2011 summer season for both its two cruise terminals

Summer is coming to an end in Vigo and now we can see that another record was broken again in cruise tourists for our city, with over 150,000 passengers on board of 75 cruise ships. At the end of August, Iberocruceros, Carnival’s Spanish branch, carried out the last stopover of the year in Vigo as its base port. This year, apart from sailing to Southern Europe and Northern Africa from Vigo, this company has started heading to the heart of Europe from our city.

This autumn, that is about to begin, some other 40 cruise ships will come to Vigo, as well as 2 more in Christmas, before this year 2011 ends, that will account for the record-breaking figure of 118 vessels and 245,000 passengers using the two modern terminals that have been only recently officially opened.

In September traffic will be really intense, when one of the 21 scheduled cruise ships will be the AZAMARA JOURNEY, with maiden call to Vigo on the same day 2 more great ships, the Costa Pacifica and the Oriana, are expected to make their stopovers. In fact, 6 calls of 2 and 3 ships on the same day will take place this month at the two passengers terminals the Port of Vigo has on both of the Port’s cruise quays. These 1,130 meters located in the very centre of the city, were used on the 26th of April this year, a historic date, for the simultaneous berthing of 4 colossus – the Ryndam, the Celebrity Eclipse, the MSC Orchestra and the Boudicca – as well as for the 20 times the Independence of the Seas will have called in Vigo this year.
