The International Festival of Tall Ships from the 25th to the 29th of August 2010
If Bremerhaven, together with the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen is inviting for the eighth time in the 150-year anniversary of the city of Bremerhaven to the International Festival of Tall Ships Sail Bremerhaven 2010, it is not just about tradition and living history, not only for the beauty and elegance of large and small sailing ships and also not only to introduce as many guests to the new Bremerhaven in 2010.
Sail Bremerhaven 2010, like all its predecessors, will create identity and image. She's embassy and ambassador both for a city connected to and growing by the sea like no other city - with people of other nations, their culture and their identity. And therefore the idea of Sail Bremerhaven is above all a celebration that brings people together.
In an age of globalization Sail Bremerhaven helps in overcoming boundaries on maps and in the minds of people - promoting tolerance, understanding and confidence. It is part of this great tradition that the President or Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany are the patrons and that the barque "Gorch Fock" of the German Navy is 2010 also the flagship of the new Sail Bremerhaven, with which we want to welcome our guests 183 years after the city's founding, in a city that has developed from its maritime roots to one of Europe's most modern cities in the areas of port industry, shipbuilding, food industry, maritime research and technology.
