HAPPY BIRTHDAY NORMANDY IN CHERBOURG WITH MSC OPERA AND MSY WINDSPIRIT CALLS ON THE 14th OF AUGUST 2011

On Sunday 14th August, the MSC Opera and the MSY Windspirit will call at Cherbourg-Octeville, Quai de France, for the day.

In order to give the cruise passengers a warm welcome, the Tourist Office, the Town of Cherbourg-Octeville and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, have come up with the idea together for the third time, of providing free entertainment in the form of: dance exhibitions, local product market, traditionnal games, historical reconstruction... This event is called Fête Z’escale. The passengers could revive on a medieval period during one day long. Cherbourg will celebrate the 11st Century Anniversary of Normandy with lots of animations in the city center; HAPPY BIRTHDAY NORMANDY.

From 10am to 6pm Different places of Cherbourg will be animated with exhibitions, music and games. Numerous presentations of historical reconstruction with Viking troupes, with crafts and fighting, inflated bouncy dragon, farm animals, tours on board of a Normand Viking boat, degustation and selling of traditional seafood and local gastronomy, Normand tales, theater, dance and bands.

For everyone’s delight we have shops, bars and cafés will be open from 10am until late afternoon. Moreover, a food court will be set up on Place Centrale, with a marquee, chairs and tables. The food available will be: lamb, mussels, French fries, grilled lobsters, grilled meat, cakes; bread and other delicious local products.
