Cherbourg – Turnaround for MSC Opera

The two last turnarounds of the MSC Opera from MSC Cruises are planned in this year in Cherbourg on the 7 and 15 of September 2011.

It will be the occasion for more than 4000 pax to discover the magnificence of Cherbourg Cruise terminal and to experience once again those glorious years of transatlantic sea voyages crossing the hold Customs Hall of the terminal. Inaugurated in 1993 by the French president Albert Lebrun, the old transatlantic station is a masterpiece of the Art Deco style. Half destroyed during the Liberation; the old transatlantic sea station is a listed monument and one of the few maritime treasures of the 1930’ Art Deco style which still survives today.

  • For each call at Cherbourg Port, the following services are provided:
  • Shuttle bus between the terminal and the downtown area
  • Exhibitors area composed of craftsmen and local tradesmen promoting our region, its expertise and manners (etiquette)
  • Folk activities with people dressed up in norman costumes
  • Regional products sampling, ciders, cookies and biscuits or some caramels are offered to the passengers before boarding.
  • Temporary exhibition: for each call at Cherbourg, some local artist come to present their canvas, paintings, drawings, sculptures or pictures in an area located at the first floor of the terminal.

Other services are provided from time to time such as horse and buggy, only available during inaugural arrivals, on Sunday and concerning small ships.
