Arrival of the Disney Magic on the 31st of July 2010

Cherbourg is getting ready to welcome a first time prestigious ships calling in the city from Disney Cruise vessels at the end of the month. Disney Magic is one of both ships of the Disney Cruise Line from the Walt Disney Cruise Company born in 1995.

It is the first vessel built in the shipyard of Fincantieri in Italy for Disney. Its figure reminds a transatlantical one just like the mythical Titanic or the Norway / France. This ship is specialized for Disney in the short cruises. Endowed with a particular horn, this passenger ship navigates for the first time in Northern Europe and Cherbourg will welcome it in a privileged way.

This cruise ship will berth at the former transatlantical harbour station dating from the 1930’s, on the 31st of July. Passengers will be able to see the Oceans Exhibition from the movie, in the Cité de la Mer Museum: exceptional images shot under every sea of the globe.  

Horse drawn carriages will allow all cruise ship passengers to discover the old town of Cherbourg, and guided bus tours will be organized to visit the area.

During the event one will be able to see the special exhibition of “Millet, at the dawn of Impressionism”, a native of the country at Museum Thomas Henry, a collection of landscape painting. An opportunity to discover the variety of the media used by the painter: sketches taken from life, preparatory drawings, etchings, pastel or oil paintings on canvas composed from memory in his workshop.

Other will be able to see the exhibition of Maxence Rifflet “A Road a path on the west coast of the Manche” at the Point du Jour, a collection of photos taken on the departmental road, called ‘tourist road’, which follows the coast from Coutances to la Hague.
