On the first 9 months of the year, the cruise activity in Lisbon accomplish 244 calls, representing an increase of 16%, comparing to the 211 counted in 2012, during the same period.
The calls growth was driven either by the growth of 50% of the turnaround calls, increasing from 32 to 48, either by the increase of 173% in interporting calls, which resulted in a total of 30 against 11 recorded from January to September 2012. This growth was boosted by the increase of these kind of operations, mainly performed by MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises.
Regarding to passengers, the Port of Lisbon recorded a growth of 8%, receiving 374 216 tourists against 345 238 recorded from January to September 2012. This growth was due to an increase of 8% of transit passengers - 340,706 and the increase of 9% in turnaround passengers - 33 510.
The period from January to September was also important for cruise ships in first call in Lisbon, from the 16 forecasted to 2013, 14 were held during this period, standing out the MSC Preziosa, Europa 2, the Royal Princess and Le Soléal on maiden voyage.
For the last quarter of 2013, the port of Lisbon expects to receive more than 116 calls and over 191 thousand passengers, it is also expected this November will be the best ever by recording the highest number of calls and passengers in this month: 46 calls and over 65 000 passengers.
Therefore, and confirming the latest forecasts, the cruises activity in the port of Lisbon will record in 2013, a growth of 15% in terms of calls, and 8% of the number of passengers, it is expected a total of 360 calls and 565 000 passengers, which will mean new records for the annual overall calls and passengers in the port of Lisbon.
