SEPTEMBER 03, 2013

The cruise activity in the port of Lisbon recorded 150 cruise calls during the first half of the year, which represents an increase of 2% compared to the 147 recorded in the same period in 2012.

The increased number of calls was determined either by the growth of 65% of the turnaround calls, which went from 20 to 33, and by the increase of 167% of the interporting calls, which resulted in a total of 16 against 6 recorded during the first half of 2012, justified by the increase of this type of operations, mainly carried out by MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises Operators.
The first half of the year was also marked by the 10 cruise ships that called the port of Lisbon for the first time, from the 15 planned for the year 2013, standing out the MSC Preziosa, Europa 2 and the Royal Princess, that called Lisbon on the maiden voyage.

For the second half of the year, who has the highest concentration of the activity due to their seasonality, and that has been extended by the last quarter of the year. The port of Lisbon expects to receive over 200 calls and more than 340 thousand passengers. November will be the best ever, recording the highest number of calls and passengers, i.e. 45 calls and over 60 thousand passengers.

Therefore, confirming the predictions, the cruise activity in the port of Lisbon will record in 2013 a growth of 13% in terms of calls, and 7% of the number of passengers. It is expected a total of 355 calls and 560 thousand passengers, which will mean new records in calls and passengers for the port of Lisbon.
