Independence of the Seas, first-hand witness to Vuelta a España’s 68th edition.

On her 2013 seventh call to the port of Vigo, Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas has been the guest of honour on the starting line of the third stage of European renowned bicycle race Vuelta a España.

Along with Tour de France and Giro d’Italia, the Vuelta a España makes part of European cycling’s prestigious three-week long Grand Tours, and its 2013 edition has chosen the port of Vigo and its surrounding area to be the starting point of the most important Spanish cycling competition. Through its first three stages, the multi-coloured bunch of contestants have ridden more than 350 km, throughout the beautiful landscapes and sceneries that make up one of Vigo’s area main appeals for tourists.

Independence’s more that 5,500 guests and crew have enjoyed the sporting spectacle and have collaborated with the exciting moment by cheering up and encouraging the cyclists on their hard effort. A beautiful sunny summer day where the large amount of local and foreign people sharing this special event has once again successfully tested the ability and professionalism of the port Security staff.

Welcoming every year the bigger ships and the most demanding companies, Vigo is committed to comply with the highest Security standards while offering its visitors a warm reception and a growing and evolving leisure offer: culture, art, shopping, gastronomy, nature, history, and... of course, sports!
