World premiere – first call of Norwegian Escape in Hamburg

OCTOBER 28, 2015

On October 23, 2015 Hamburg welcomed the youngest cruise member of Norwegian Cruise Line. Brand new from the Meyerwerft in Papenburg the Norwegian Escape docked at the new cruise terminal in Steinwerder. Before moving the vessel to the eastern and western Caribbean, the shipping company Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) offered the possibility to visit the Norwegian Escape.

Members of Hamburg Cruise Center e.V. were invited to an exclusive guided tour on board of the Norwegian Escape. During this 90 minute tour, the participants were able to get an insight view of the life aboard the cruise giant. There were 20 decks to discover, full of adventures for big and small guests. It is impossible to become bored on a ship offering entertainment of two Broadway musicals, the biggest high rope garden on high sea, an Aqua park and the exclusive ,,Mandara" spa area. With a maximum of 4.266 passengers and a crew consisting of approximately 1.700 members it is the biggest cruise ship which ever started a trip from Hamburg.

At about 7 o’clock in the evening the Norwegian Escape started a two-night premiere cruise to the North Sea. The departure was celebrated with a great firework and a "Sail Away"-party at the Landungsbrücken, including a special performance by the Hamburg DJ team „The Disco Boys”.
Hamburg Tourism GmbH and Hamburg Cruise Center e.V. were aboard and informed on this premiere cruise journalists and travel agencies from all over Europe, invited by NCL, about the cruise destination Hamburg.

After the premiere cruise, the Norwegian Escape left Hamburg for a short trip to Southampton. The cruise ship christening will take place on November 9, 2015 in Miami by the international superstar Pitbull.

The maiden call of the Norwegian Escape had been the last one in 2015. In total there had been eight ships calling to Hamburg for the first time. Although the port of Hamburg still expects its last calls in December, it can already announce another successful year. Not only has the new Cruise Terminal Steinwerder successfully been put into operation, but also 156 calls of 33 different cruise ships and a total passenger volume of approx. 525.000 pax underline once again Hamburgs premier position among Northern and Western Europe's cruise destinations.
